In general shows from the UK are better than those made in the US. Having said that there are a lot of good shows that I enjoy watching from the US. It is also true that not every show from the UK is a good one.
One example is the show Primeval. The basic premise is that gateways between different times form to allow creatures to pass through back in to current time. The first season was not too bad because it had a number of strong characters. The current season and most of the one before has some of the poorest writing that I've seen for quite a while. The two main characters are always racing off alone to face some prehistoric monster. Of the two female comes across as the strongest while the male, who is really more of a techno-geek, is always making the same kind of mistakes, the same kind of stupid decisions that you would expect from somebody who is completely clueless. In real life such a team would consist of multiple members who at the very least would provide covering fire for each other.
Typically when the show is taken from the UK and remade in the US it doesn't work. This is highlighted in a new TV show Episodes. The show in a TV way exemplifies how the US mind does not understand one from the UK.
One show at least the first episode of Being Human in the US form has the basic character is correct but could not help introducing new twists starting from episode one. I suspect that over the next few episodes the basic story diverged from the one in the UK and take on US like attributes.
Finally there are cooking shows. I guess these are really easy to make because as they seem to be everywhere. It is at the point now where as soon as I see one I automatically change channels like some kind of Pavlovian conditioned response.
